Most Magento agencies recommend Adobe Commerce because it's easier. It comes with licensing fees running into tens of thousands of euros per year and an expectation that Adobe's features should be used as they ship.
We've chosen a different path. As a Magento development agency focused on Open Source, our clients run Magento Open Source with Hyvä as frontend and in-house B2B capabilities we've built without licence dependency. The result is that clients get equivalent or better functionality at a lower total cost. The money instead goes toward Hyvä, performance, integrations, and development of what actually differentiates their business.
Adobe Commerce (formerly Magento Commerce, and formerly Magento Enterprise) is still right in some cases. When the client has an existing Adobe stack, specific features that are hard to replicate, or when licence cost is marginal relative to project scale. But it's the exception, not the default.
