Magento is an eCommerce platform used by over 250000 merchants worldwide and is well known as one of the strongest platforms on the market.
The platform is Open Source, but comes as a licensed version with Cloud capabilities – Magento Commerce. The main advantage with Open Source is the flexibility and possibility of building anything you as a client could ever need. If you are innovative, we wont stop you!

All together, we have a very strong collaboration with Adobe and Magento. This has been strengthened since Magento has upped a local presence after the Adobe Acquisition 2018. We are proud to be partners with Magento. Our goal is to always stay ahead of the competition together with Magento.
We are using Magento because of the flexibility and scalability, helping our clients to grow. It is one of the more complex platforms which allows to do almost anything.
Magento has a unique community with hundreds of thousands of people contributing and bringing innovative ideas and development into the platform solution. This is one of the reasons that Magento has been a leader in the business for a long time, being proven in Gartners latest reports as shown in this image.

The free version of Magento is called Open source (previously know as Community), and is the version which the majority of merchants are using. It is available to download for anyone and can simply be set up with standard and run in production. However, you will not have any support directly from Magento and it does not have all the functionality as the paid version has. Previously most of our clients used this version. However now that Magento has improved their offer, most new clients are going for Commerce.
The innovation in this platform exceeds any expectation you could have. Magentos community offers unlimited capabilities to get your online store. There are hundreds of thousands of developers working within the Magento Community and sells their code or extensions. Some of them also offers them for free. This, in combination with the large scale Adobe company, will make sure the innovation stays in front of the tech.
The support for the unlicensed version is usually offered by an agency like Nordic Web Team or similar. Although, the licensed version, Commerce, provides a support directly from Magento. On top of that there is of course support from third party providers. However, we would recommend using the licensed version in combination with a credited agency (solution partner) in order to get maximum support. To make support work really well, use the tech the solution partner knows and highlights.
Magento marketplace offers a large marketplace (think app-store) with extensions. An extension could be a payment method, integration or a tool to help your administration. Using these extensions could save a massive amount of time for you and your developers. Compared to other platforms this is something thats really cutting the competition. Why invent the wheel twice? We are also a part of the community and do publish our extensions for the community to use.

On Magento Marketplace, Themeforest or similar you are able to buy a storefront / theme which will transform your stores front-end to that design. This is great if you are happy with a standard design for Magento. However, most brands want or need a unique look and feel, and a frontend to ensure the right performance. Keep things clean and use your agency’s boilerplate and designer.
The licensed / paid version of Magento is called Commerce (previously know as Enterprise). This version is also available as a hosted version called Commerce cloud. Both of these versions are directly supported by Magento. This means you are able to also use their support or send bug reports / issues directly to them. Within their cloud hosting you will for example also have access to New Relic and their platform to handle releases and such.
